A - There are many brands of facepaint available so there is no need to use poster paints, magic markers, or craft glitter, especially if you are going to be paid for facepainting.

Use only waterbase paints. Manufacturers of many facepaints including greasepaint warn not to use red or yellow in the area of the eye. It would be wise to stay away from children's eyelids altogether.

1. OVER THE RAINBOW water activated crayons by Mehron. Just dip the tip in water...so easy a child can use them. Great for making clown faces or where no details are required.

2. FANTASY F-X squeeze tube by Mehron. Ready to use cream can be applied with fingertips or brush. Economical and a favorite with schools and sports.

3. KRYOLAN AQUACOLOR is an all time favorite of facepainters. Palettes and refills are for use with a damp brush. The larger foundation size works well with sponges.

4. PARADISE AQ by Mehron is the newest and most popular facepaint. Palettes, refills, and the pro-size are a semi-soft, water activated, moist cake makeup.

5. DETAILZ by Mehron is a liquid with pointed applicator to make perfect tiny dots.

Q - I am doing a clown show with kids and would like to use water based makeup. How much makeup will I need?

 

A - Water based makeup is a good choice because it doesn't require powdering or special removers

 

StarBlend Cake Makeup by Mehron (2 oz containers) is applied with damp sponge.

I prefer Paradise sponge #821 that can be cut into 1/4 pcs. Co says 6 - 12 full faces per ounce.

StarBlend also comes in Red, Black, Flesh base colors and many more colors. It can also be applied dry, with a dry brush (as you would apply dry rouge).

 

Fantasy F-X Tube makeup is more economical for the colors.
Can be squeezed onto wax paper in dobs for multi users.
Co says will do 50 - 100 small designs. I prefer using Paradise round brushes for this.
